Errands and Eggs

Yesterday we paid town a quick visit, this is now done with military precision as my daughters nap is at 12:30pm so when we make the decision to visit Belfast we really need to be out of the house for 9:30am to make it worth our while. Am sure you can imagine its all very relaxing......

Anyway I had a present to buy (didn't get it) mascara to purchase and countless clothing items to return.  I had ordered some basics from M&S and they helpfully sent me items with security tags attached.  They had to go back along with a few tops from Zara which were just alright and not really nice enough to keep.

Its hard dressing for the weather at the moment, I ended up wearing countless layers.  I am so desperate to get out of winter coats and into some warmer weather gear.

Sorry for the selfie but how gorgeous are these colours in my scarf? Really cheering and superb for brightening up a tired face.

After moaning mentioning that I didn't receive an Easter Egg this year my husband bought me these from Hotel Chocolat.  They were amazing especially the salted caramel's!!!  I might have ate them all.....

Hope you have enjoyed your Easter/still enjoying your Easter break.  I am back to work tomorrow which I am feeling a little sad about, really loved having some time off to spend with my family.

Happy Easter!
We had a great day today.  Time spent with family, a well behaved baby, lots of food and a few glasses of champagne!  What more could a girl ask for?!

We spent the morning at Castle Espie then back home to let Stella nap while we tidied the house (hid all the baby paraphernalia and cleaned sticky finger marks off the windows) oh and prepared dinner for my parents coming round.

Neither of us are particularly keen on a roast dinner so on the menu was chicken and leek pie with veg and roast potatoes and dessert was a key lime pie.  Not a traditional leg of lamb or a chocolatey pudding in sight!  Whoops! Everything was Jamie Oliver and are tried and tested recipes, relatively easy to make and usually liked by everyone including the fussiest of guests.

That Friday Feeling

First day of Easter holidays was a success.  My girl was an absolute star all day so much so that I really think she must have been trying to be good!

After Stella had a good 2 hour nap in which I whizzed round the house like a woman possessed with hoovering, washing, showered myself and doing a bit of work we left the house to pick up some groceries from Tesco, had a coffee and a scone and a run round soft play.

Don't you just love days in which things seem to work out and everyone is happy? This was the sort of thing that I took for granted before baby but now a day like that just brings so much pleasure :-)

I am not going to lie this scone was finished before we even got our coffees.

I wore a total bargaintastic coat I got from Asos and I really like it, its warm and looks much more expensive than it is. Its reduced from £95 to £57 in their sale.  The neck can be worn buttoned up or pulled down into a collar. This might be a better picture.

Hopefully the rest of our time off is as successful!

Country Style

One of the perks for living in the country is that you can walk straight out your front door and see rolling green fields, wild geese, sheep, cows and possibly feed some donkeys if your really lucky.
It was a grey day but just before tea time we threw on our coats and went round the corner to see the little lambs in the field behind us and forever the multitaskers we managed to get a few snaps of what I was wearing.

I actually had a cashmere scarf and jumper on today this was the first cashmere wearing occasion in a very loooonnggg time.
This is because my little girl has acid reflux which was terrible in those first few months although it has greatly improved now with the help of medication and her going onto solids.
Unfortunately on occasion she will still surprise us with a bit of reflux usually during the most inopportune moment (think soft play, out for coffee or at a friends house or should I say on a friends lovely sofa)......so cashmere along with silk, clutch bags and very high stilettos had been placed in a wardrobe in my spare room labelled "My Old Life".  Lately the odd thing has started emerging from this wardrobe and this brings me great satisfaction! Saying that previously I would have teamed this cashmere combo with suede over the knee boots and a little leather jacket but c'est la vie!

I have my husband off for the Easter long weekend so some dry weather over the next few days would be nice!

New Shoes

Its my day off work today so this morning consisted of meeting a friend and her little boy and taking the kiddies to soft play to burn off some energy while we try to drink a coffee and have a bit of a chat.  Our chatting is interrupted countless times while our toddlers attempt to throw themselves down slides, exit the premises, demand food and need nappies changed! Its all good fun!

I am wearing my new shoes which I bought from Dune in House of Fraser.  I love these as the colour works so well with denim, they are smarter than my usual trainers and I really like the white slightly wedged sole.  They are also comfortable but yet I think they are stylish too.  These guys definitely run big though, I had to size down and they are the perfect fit.

Outfit for Coffee and Ducks

Yesterday we visited Castle Espie where we are members, it is very handy for us so we tend to go often.  It was a nice day and I had thought it was fairly mild but I discovered very quickly that it wasn't even remotely mild and I really should have put on my winter coat!

This outfit was put on with comfort in mind as there is quite a lot of walking with Castle Espie so its not going to win any prizes for best dressed!  The little bomber jacket was bought in Miami while I was pregnant.  A word of advice is that buying a bomber jacket while pregnant and bomber shaped is not a good idea.  I should have sized down.  Its a really handy jacket though as it has wool arms and is comfortable enough to wear indoors which I did for about 2 hours when I got home to warm up a bit!  Its not Spring yet people ;-)

If the ducks aren't your thing then the coffee is good too :-)

Great views from the coffee shop with Scrabo in the distance

Out for Dinner

My husband and I managed to get out for dinner in one of our local restaurants last night.
It was a Thursday night so I kept things low key in skinny jeans, a light knit jumper and my favourite LK Bennett heels. It felt like a bit of a treat having a glass of wine mid week!
Our local called The Poachers Pocket is a great restaurant, the food is always delicious, atmosphere friendly and I like the decor.  Much recommended!  We had a rough night with a teething baby the evening before so we were home and in bed by 10:30pm, rock and roll people ;-)

Going for a Walk

We went out for a walk with my little girl and stupidly I thought my husband could take a few photographs of my outfit while we were at it.  It really wasn't a success as they aren't even remotely good photographs but they made me laugh and show the reality of what a "relaxing" walk with a toddler actually looks like!

For some reason I appear to be smiling as she falls over?

Make up favourites

Well aren't we lucky, it is another stunning day out there.  That has been quite a few days in a row which is very unusual for our otherwise dismal Northern Ireland weather.  Its always so wonderful to see the sun out and it definitely seems to give everyone a lift!

I went out this morning with a friend and our babies and instead of wearing my usual winter coat and boots I actually wore a cardigan and shoes.....and I wasn't even cold!!  The excitement ;-)

Thought I would share my make up constants.  These are the items I always use, pretty much day in, day out and I always repurchase.  I am by no means an expert but I know what works for me and these are the items that are IT!  Every now and again I take a recommendation whether from a friend, blogger or magazine and try something new but always come back to my same items on my next repurchase!

My foundation is YSL Touche Eclat but this could have easily been Chanel Vitalumiere.  I love them both equally and take them in turns when repurchasing. My preference is a thin, liquid foundation that looks dewy and natural.  I find thin formulas easy to work with and these can both be put on in a hurry and make my tired skin look that bit more radiant.

Claris Beauty Flash is just brilliant, I apply to dry patches of skin and a little on cheek bones just to amp up the glow under foundation.

YSL Couture Eye Primer was purchased when I bought my foundation.  I have never tried this before and always used Urban Decay Eye Primer.  I only bought it as YSL in Boots was  offering some sort of extra points deal if I purchased 2 products (I am a total sucker for these things) but I love this and find it works better for me than the Urban Decay and I much prefer the packaging.

Naked Urban Decay Flushed is my go to bronzer, I also use the blusher and I love having them in a compact.  I can't vouch for the highlight as I never use it!

Dior Rosy Glow blusher was bought as a present for me some years back and I always use it when I need brightening up.  The bright pink looks slightly scary but if applied with a light hand can really brighten up a dull complexion.

Seventeen Phwoarr Concealer for me is as good as Laura Mercier's and at a fraction of the price.  Covers up my under eye circles and is a lovely creamy consistency.

Collection Extreme Felt Tip Liner is soooo cheap and just excellent. I used to use a Lancome one and only picked this up when I couldn't find mine and there was only a Superdrug at hand.  I have repurchased time and time again and usually buy one every couple of months.

Same with the Seventeen Sculpting Pencil, nothing much more I can say about it except it works and its cheap!

Clinique Neutral Territory 2 Eyeshadow Palette is lovely, it has all these wonderful, wearable shades for day or night.  I used to have UD Naked Palettes but I hated the bulkiness of the packaging and this little slim Clinique palette is perfect for me.

Clinique Long Last lipstick in Watermelon is MY colour!  It makes my complexion look so much better and if I have had a hard night with the baby this baby perks me right up.  The perfect pink!

Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud was a Mothers Day gift from my husband.  Pricey but so worth it I cannot describe how much I love this perfume!

Now time for me to get some lunch and possibly clean out my car while my girl sleeps!  Lets hope this sunshine continues.

Weekend Wears

Quite a grey day out there today but dry and not freezing. We are doing nothing more exciting than Sainsburys and hopefully a coffee later.  My daughter has a terrible cough and spent pretty much the whole night awake with it so a coffee is definitely required!

I am wearing a cosy outfit with a pair of boots that are a new addition.  They have a bit of a heel but I am still able to run about in them. They are also comfortable but still look pretty good I think!  Footwear is a huge problem for me at the moment, the old me loved nothing more than a pair of high heels but I quickly figured out after having a baby that this type of footwear was no longer working and teetering around in a pair of heels after a baby just makes you look like a bit of a idiot!  I am always on the hunt for trendy flats (I swear I waste so many hours on these sorts of things!) and I think I have found a pair, they arrived from House of Fraser this week so I will have to show them off!

My First Ever Outfit Post

In my mind my first outfit post was going to be pretty great!  There was going to be a dress involved......definitely heels anyway, a clutch bag and an exciting evening out.
Unfortunately thats not reality these days. Its been a long time since I chugged wine, danced on tables and stayed out until the early hours!
Life these days consists of (if its my day off work) running around the house after my daughter pulling her away from ordinary house type things which are now seen as majorly dangerous, getting us both ready in record time without us falling out with each other, then out the door to somewhere which will help burn some crazy toddler energy.  The rest of the afternoon is spent cleaning the house and feeding the crazy toddler until bed time.  A life of glamour it isn't!
Anyway here it is....a typical days outfit for a typical day!

My name is Claire and I live in a little village in the beautiful North Down countryside, I am a first time mum to a very active 1 year old with a love of fashion, beauty and pretty much all the nicer things in life!

I am starting this blog as I have found since I became a Mum that my style has changed, I have got stuck in a rut fashion wise and I tend to make the same sensible clothing choices day in, day out that keep me comfortable and able to run after my girl.  I am hoping by starting this blog and documenting what I am wearing and putting it all out there that this will help me change it up again and get back that pleasure that I used to feel wearing great clothes and to see that my style hasn't disappeared and rather just evolved due to my new lifestyle!

I find it a struggle to find blogs written by other like minded females in their 30's who are from Northern Ireland so I decided I should start one myself :-)

I appreciate any comments.
